A Litter

Heard a new comment today: "You've got a litter!" That one stunned me a bit and it took a minute to come up with a response.

What would you say if someone referred to your children as a litter??

  1. Not sure what I'd say, but it's not accurate in any sense of the word. You didn't have them all at once.....blow it off. It's not worth getting upset over people's ignorant commments.

  2. Ignorance doesn't deserve a response, but that's not in our make-up is it? How about a credulous look and, "These precious individuals were born one at a time."

  3. I probably would have said "Yes, I would have if they were puppies but thank goodness they're not.I think my kids are much cuter."

Yes, I would have said that IF I had my wits about me.

    So, what did you say?

  4. I'd give the person the benefit if the doubt. Hopefully, they were just trying to be funny and not insulting. Perhaps they didn't want to say You've got your hands full!" ;) I like Nealy's response.

  5. I'd tell the kids to start barking, and they would, and it would be loud, and the person who said it would probably then regret it. :) The kids would have fun, I'd be laughing, and hopefully our joy would spill over onto the poor unfortunate soul who started it all.

  6. What I would want to say: Ummm NO. Litters are for animals, these are children. Now please go away.

What I should say: We don't have a litter but we do have a bunch of blessings! Do you know my Jesus?

  7. Honestly, I would have burst out laughing and probably said, "that's funny!" (Unless the person was being sarcastic)

I would have also thought that as least it was different from the "boy you've got your hands full" saying.

At least the person was creative. :D

  8. I would say, "My children are not dogs" and walk away. Or maybe, "How dare you compare my children to a litter of animals." Or more than likely I would have looked at them in stunned silence and not known what to say.

  9. Maybe they like kittens or puppies. If it was a sports fan they might have said you have enough for a whole team.
Some people just don't know how to express themselves.
Follow Phil. 4:8, smile and take it as a compliment. You are much blessed.

  10. What I said was:
:) They're much more fun than puppies.

  12. I'd probably be speechless just like I was this weekend when I got the, "you've got your hands full!" comment again. I have two kids. ???

If I was in a mood, I'd inform them that no, I do not in fact own a dog, much less a litter of puppies. But then I'm normally not brave enough to use my sarcasm on complete strangers. I pretty much think that's good for my health.

  13. I probably would have just stared at them with a dumb look thinking I must have heard wrong! Your response was PERFECT!

  14. I think it's funny and kind of cute. It wouldn't offend me at all. I'd probably start laughing. :)

  15. Actually I have had someone refer to them as a litter, but it was my best friend and she was joking.
I didn't really laugh, but I did let it slide.

If it was a stranger, it would totally depend on my mood. I'd most likely not respond to it, though.

We get the basketball team comment all the time now.

  16. Seems like a sweet statement. I would have smiled and said, "They're a lot of fun."

  17. I'd smile, actually! I don't think I would think anything of it other than all that happiness at once! By the way, I love your response...!!!!

  18. Tell 'em to start barking - ROTFL! That's the best response of all, Feminine Pursuits! LOVE IT!

  19. Hi Ginger! I miss you at MOMYS.

I think I would say something to the effect that "litters" of creatures don't have souls, while my children most definitely do.

It would irk me if someone said something like that.

    Sorry it happened to you.

    Blessings,
    Marci
