God showed me when I was a child that I would have 2 girls and a boy. I had two biological daughters and then closed up the baby shop for medical reasons. For 10 years I prayed for my son. I was just about to give up hope when my husband said, "Let's become foster parents!" I thought he was crazy, but God did a complete change in his heart, so I had to go with it!

In the past year, I have had the honor of being foster mother to three infant boys. One has gone to live with Grandma, a Christian woman whose feet I need to sit at and bask. Another is going home in 2 weeks, a son I have loved unabashedaly since I picked him up from NICU over a year ago. I found out last week that we can adopt my third son in 3-6 months.

The amazing thing to me is that I love these boys no differently than my home-grown girls. I admire their toes, their ears, their deep blue eyes. I gush with the most intense pride imaginable when they meet goals we have worked on in therapy, when they achieve all their firsts. I know it is not my stellar gene pool contributing to their developmental conquests. It is a mixture of gifts from their parents and the power of what love and attention can do in the life of a child.

One of the most amazing things I have come to realize is that God answered my prayer for a son in triplicate. No, I am not called to be the forever mother for all of them, but I was able to be their mommy in Chapter One. What an amazing honor it has been. Our hearts were knit the second we met, and nothing--no time elapsed, no measure of seperation--can unravel our connection.

Being a foster/adoptive mother has been the most amazing experience. I know I was put on this earth for this very reason. I am amazed at the lessons my home-grown children have learned about the power of embracing lives...embracing the precious life that was broken, and embracing the mommies who carried them because our hearts are knit together forever, too.

Adoption is a calling. Adoption is a spiritual journey. Adoption is the most amazing proof of grace and evidence of a Father who orders every step.

While I used to think of adoption as just a way for people to have a child who couldn't bear one naturally, I now see it in a completely different light. To me it is a way to express gratitude to the Lord for adopting me as His child. Where would I be without this adoption!?

We are all called to take care of widows and orphans. To be a father to the fatherless. I still have to pray for my husband on this front as he doesn't want to "disrupt" our little family, however, he does say he will take as many children as God gives, sooooooo. :) I've been praying for a while now, and God has given me peace that he will bring us more children when the time is right. Even if it means toddlers and teens under our roof at the same time. :) Bring it on. ;)

I love adoption. I think it is an amazing thing. I hope that God has adoption for me somewhere in the future. I don't know anything for sure from Him yet but I am preparing my heart. I actually had a dream the other night about filling out mountains of adoption related paper work. This verse came to me in my dream:

"Yet those who wait for the LORD
Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary."
Isaiah 40:31

I am a mother of nine. We have four biological Children, three adopted through our local foster care and two who are currently foster placements. We pray the Lord will bless us with the privilege to adopt them also.
Adoption for me holds a special value, you see I was adopted as an infant. I have always known I was adopted although I don't know the circumstances of my birth.
I was given the blessing of life and a family was chosen for me. Our choices in life affect others. Because of the selflessness of another I have the privilege to share my life and the choice to love all that the Lord will bring us. We are blessed and pray we may be a blessing to others.
