Why I Quit Facebook

These pictures have nothing at all to do with the topic fyi

Facebook's Gone Rogue

Facebook has gone rogue, drunk on founder Mark Zuckerberg’s dreams of world domination. It’s time the rest of the web ecosystem recognizes this and works to replace it with something open and distributed.

This is actually only one reason (the other being that it sucked too much of my time), but it's a good reason.

I do agree it can be a time waster. As far as privacy goes, if someone wants my information it's not that hard to get with or without facebook. I like being connected easily to my family and friends. Facebook can certainly be bad (my sister in law left my brother after 38 years of marriage to reunite with her first love-who was also married-after reconnecting on facebook), so I certainly understand the dangers and as with anything it must be used with due diligence. I'm just not ready to throw the baby out with the bathwater. I hop on in the morning and scroll through people's statuses and add prayer requests to my prayer journal. I've been able to help friends (who live close) because I knew their situation sooner. For me, it's been a good thing. Sometimes, I find myself spending too much time and will give it a break for a while. All in all, though, it has worked for me better than message boards or whatever. I actually spend less time on facebook than I did other places on the internet that I've since given up. That being said, I can certainly see the merit in giving it up completely as well.

I removed all my 'friends' that I am not currently in touch with on a regular basis. No old high school classmates or previous coworkers. That saves a ton of time! So I only spend a few minutes a day on there, and not even daily. I also seriously locked down all my privacy settings so that I don't even show up in searches for my names or high school, and removed my hometown/current location. Anything I post is visible to my friends only, and I don't play the games or use apps that can use my info.

Anything else, people could track down anyway. I check from time to time and Google my name and nothing comes up, so we manage to hide the important stuff pretty well.

Yes, but I have to come find you here, lol! Whereas FB brought you right to me :) I guess I will have to speak up more around here (grumble grumble complain complain) :) Are you still on MOMYS? Maybe I will stalk you there....

Ugh, no I'm not there either. Between Momys & FB I was spending too much time on the computer. I had to cut them both.
