Confessions of a City Girl

I LOVE living in the city. I like my neighbors, enjoy talking over the fence with them in the evenings, sharing cookies and lemonade when they're working outside, or "borrowing" an egg when I need one for a recipe. I love that our bank is 5 minutes away, the library is 7 minutes away, and I have my choice of Whole Foods, Sprout's, or WalMart Market all within a 10 minute drive from our front door.
We don't have a problem with bobcats, or coyotes, or racoons. (We do, however, see spiders, hear crickets, and really loud locusts in the summer time.) I would enjoy having more animals and more space for a big garden, but when it comes right down to it, I'd rather have the conveniences of the city life.

I'm Curious: Are you a city person or a country person? Why?

I was telling my friend Beth about you having Chickens in the city--and she asked--why doesn't she move to the country? Your reasoning makes total sense to me!!! I am such a lover of being in the city--but I love the things that you are doing(country side)...plus I want a big garden too!! Country people don't get city people, and visa versa sometimes...it's a phenomenon! I like your best of both worlds!!

Now that I know how easy chickens are, we'll probably get the max amt the city allows next go round.
And I should clarify: when I say I want more "animals", I mean that I'd love to have milking goats. Of course, I'd need someone to milk them when we go to the lake or on vacation. That's why we haven't looked into goats too seriously. :)

Definitely country, but I'm stuck in the suburbs. Ideally, I'd live on an acre or two, but close to everything - not way far out. Of course around here, nothing is too far way no matter where you live. It's suburban sprawl all around.

COUNTRY all the way!!!

I love the feeling of the wide open spaces. I love that we can laugh and play a little louder because it doesn't affect anyone else. I love that I don't have to GO anywhere to hike. (Most of our 11 acres is woods) I love the feeling of not being "watched". In today's time it's nervewracking for me to parent in public. There are just too many weirdos out there. :)
I love that my kids have lots of room to run.
I love the scenic view of less houses and more nature. I like the quieter/relaxed pace. I LOVE the fact that the stars are brilliant here due to no streetlights. :)

Pretty much everything about it I like.

I know I would not care for the city. Thankfully DH feels the same way so unless God makes us move to a city- countryfolk we will be. :)

I am finally a complete country girl! Well make that country mama. I am too old to be a girl. :-) We made our move out of the city last fall and we realy like it. It is a lot of work since it is our first year here but it is worth it. We are only 15 minutes from town so we kind if get the best of both worlds. :-)

We bought 6 acres that is a stone throw over the city limits,we have a country setting, lower taxes, animals and privacy, yet our walmart is 8 mins drive as well as the library, drs, grocerys and all of town.I think our setting would suit your family well.We don't live near a big city, its more of a suburb, the nearest large city is 1 hr away, our city has about 40,000 people in it,but everything we could ever need.

I am a city girl at heart but turned country when my newly wed husband moved me 40 minutes out in the country. Having moved back to the city I long for the simplicity of country life, having a garden, some animals and lots and lots of quiet. Right now we live in the city and I am not loving it very much, especially when it comes to my kids. I would love for them to grow up on lots of land with animals to take care of and fresh air to breathe in. I NEVEr thought I would desire living 30 minutes out in the boonies but we are headed that way and I can't wait!

I like the (medium sized) city life. I like being very close to my family and friends. I like being so close to stores and such. I like that Chicago is only 30 minutes away.
BUT...when I go to visit friends in the country that seems to fit too. I like (the idea of - I've never actually done it) farming and animals. I like the slower paced life. I like going to the county fair. I like swimming holes. I LOVE long country roads with music blasting.
I guess I'm a little of both.

Jill's situation sounds like exactly what I want....a couple acres for a little more room, but close to all my conveniences. Can't I have it all?

I like in city limits of a small town. I used to live 7 miles out of town and it wasn't very convenient and we spent a lot of money in gas and a lot of time getting places. I like the convenience of the in city limits better. We have good neighbors so I enjoy them too.
