Your Best Read

I love to read. I go back and forth between non-fiction and fiction. I love to learn new things, but I also need a break from that sometimes and just want a good story.
I'm Curious: What's your favorite fiction book? Do you have a favorite author?

My all time favorite book is called Honor Bound by Colleen Reece---a romantic story of a Christian young woman who marries the wrong twin by mistake. I have read it soooo many times!!
My favorite author--probably Beverly Lewis

Right now I am reading all of Jane Austen's books and wow! Unbelievable! After I finish a book then my preteen girls and I use our Thursday night "girl night" to watch the accompanying movie. Right now I am in Mansfield Park.

A modern author I really like is Tamar Myers. She has funny mysteries set in the midst of the Pennsylvania Dutch and Mennonites. Very funny stuff!

Probably "The Poisonwood Bible" by Barbara Kingsolver.

The Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers. Set in ancient Rome...the first 100 pages were sort of hard for me, but it was amazing after that. My favorite books of all time. They're also Christian and very inspiring.
Favorite Author? Francine Rivers

I also loved The Last Sin Eater and Redeeming Love...also by Ms. Rivers.

That's a tough one... I seem to go through phases of loving certain authors. Who's your favorite right now?

A great book I read recently by Christmas Carol Kaufman called "Hidden Rainbow." She writes inspirational fiction, but this particular book is based on a true story of a Hungarian couple who find salvation, survive war-times and persecution...eventually immigrating to the US. Great story!

E, I agree- Francine Rivers is my favorite author, but I've read everything of hers and she hasn't written anything new. :( I'd love to find an author like her. Convicting fiction- that's what I love.

I love Kristen Heitzmann, Georgette Heyer, Ted Dekker, Francine Rivers, and Philippa Gregory(historical fiction). My favorite book of all time is "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte and I love Jane Austen too.

The only fiction I read is historical fiction, and usually it's jr. high and high school level. I have never been a fan of adult fiction.

I have been reading a lot of Scott O'Dell lately. I've just started "The Hawk That Dare Not Hunt In Day" about Tyndale.

There is one really good hf adult level book I've enjoyed. It's "Follow The River" by James Alexander Thom. I would read another by him if I saw it.

I love Stepping Heavenward, too! I love any piece of classic lit., as well as biographies or true missionary stories: Bruchko, Peace Child, etc.

Hands down, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I love all the Jane Austen books, but P&P is my favourite. My dc all love to watch the BBC version of it with me whenever we are in the mood for a bit of feel good tv.

Actually, I'm more of a fantasy or sci-fi fan. I like Robert Jordan's series but it is 12 big books long. I also like Anne McCaffrey and Terry Brooks. Also, C.S. Lewis and TOlkien. I don't read much now that my youngest is 9. I usually read while nursing the babies. :-)

I totally cannot pick one favorite! I go through phases- get bored with fiction and read all biographies and other nonfiction. One book I remember LOVING in high school was Let the Little Children Come by Lois Dick (about Amy Carmichael). Come to think of it, I should read that one again. This was a great question to give us all reccomendations for new things to read- I just requested Honor Bound from my library.

Fiction? What's that? :) I really have enjoyed Karen Kingsbury's books. They are so encouraging!

I think my previous comment got lost so I'll try again.

My favorite fiction author would have to be Tolkien. After him C. S. Lewis.

My husband's favorite is Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series, though he is REALLY enjoying Terry Goodkind's series now.

Mostly I read historical fiction. I really enjoyed "Follow The River" by James Alexander Thom. I will be reading more of his books, I'm sure.

I go through periods where I like all sorts of things :) George MacDonald is an old standard of mine that I LOVE. He was CS Lewis's favorite author (no correcting my horrible grammar LOL).

A GREAT fun read right now is a friend's serial book www.fairburytales.wordpress.com She's posting them unedited as she writes the chapters. I look forward every day to a new chapter!

The shadow women sort of reminded me of a Francine Rivers book...although I can't recall who wrote it right now.
