Why choose herbs instead of drugs?
- Herbs were created by God for healing and nutrition. Drugs are synthetic forms of all that God made.
- God knows better than man. Always.
- Drug antibiotics frequently result in recurrences of the illness. The earlier they are given, the greater the chance of recurrence.
- Drugs treat symptoms; herbs heal. Think about meds given for reflux, for instance. They make the symptoms stop, but do not heal the problem causing the reflux. So the reflux is still present and still problematic, even if you can't feel it.
- Herbs are cheaper.
- Herbs are just as straightforward as drugs. If you can learn the difference between Tylenol and Tums, you can learn what herb to use for what problem too.
This is my favorite book for learning about herbs. This is the one I keep going back to:

Oh Ginger,
I wish there was an herb that would cure my husband's Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer's. We do use coconut oil and tumeric, but have to have him take dementia medicine also.
I guess there are herbs that can help me when I am down about his disease, though. And prayer, and clinging to Scripture.

I so understand your struggle. When I worked as a Speech pathologist, I specialized in Dementia/Alheimer's. I know how hard it is.
Thanks, Ginger! How does a Speech pathologist ever deal with dementia? Deal with the caregivers?
I am learning to just speak one idea at a time. Still my husband can pray eloquent prayers and say a lot to me.
My heart goes out to Carol and her struggles. Of course, you use herbs in place of antibiotics. You're right, of course, that a little research can replace a lot of skepticism. Don and I are certainly grateful for all you've taught us about herbs, altho we have a long way to go! However, I have become a loud spokesperson for GSE! GSE, sleep, water: an amazing combination!

I worked in nursing homes for many years with people who had dementia and Alzheimer's. It's a difficult road to travel, especially with one you love! May the Lord strengthen you and hold you in the palm of His hand. He loves your husband even more than you do, and He will prove Himself mighty through this trial.
I've been wanting a book for general herb recommendation. There are so many, it's nice to have one I know someone uses. Thanks!
Carol, the goal of treatment was maintenance of skills, not gaining new ones. And yes, a lot of education was given to caregivers:
Don't keep re-orienting Grandpa. You're just confusing him, which exacerbates the Dem/Alz symptoms.
Join whatever world he's in at the moment.
If you feel he isn't safe with carkeys, take them. Don't trust that he knows what he's talking about when he says he can still handle it.
Those are the main things that go against our natural tendencies and make a huge difference. :)
