I took Daniel with me to run an errand tonight. Just him and me. As we were walking in the store, a family I semi-recognized was walking in. I said hi. The dad looks and me and smiles, then does a double take and looks at Daniel. He looks up at me, smiling, and says: "He's black."
LOL!!!
That's all he said. I just said, "Yep, he's black."
The (black) cashier heard all this and was dying laughing.
I've heard lots of funny comments and/or looks, but this one wins.

I'm speechless! I keep wondering what I would have said. "What's your point?" "Does that bother you?" "In God's eyes and mine, he's a little boy." "Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight." What rock has that guy been under the past 50 years??
My first thought was....MORON!!!
Geeezzzzz!

Wow!! I'm also speechless in these situations!! I later over-analyze them and wonder exactly what the person meant, was thinking, etc. but ultimately the moment has passed so who knows?
My DH and I were in Wal-mart with out bi-racial son when he was around 1 1/2 and the "mildly mentally delayed" (I'm really being kind with this description, this was someone who asked us why we were using an ad to purchase 20 bottles of shampoo/conditioner for 59 cents each when they were only 99 cents at their store? Huh? - oh yeah, she said, her calculator wasn't working right - the one she was holding in her hand to figure out how much to credit us - hmmmm). Anyway, she looked at me, pointedly looked at our son, then at my husband, each time studying our faces and thankfully didn't say a word but very obviously studied each one of us for several seconds. We just laughed as we left the store. I think we probably confused the poor girl.
If these people only knew how much free entertainment they provide us. . .
Funny story, Lisa. I credit the public school system for his impressive math skills. {{snicker}}
Ginger,
How DID you respond? I can't imagine what I might say...:)
That's all I said Lori (what I posted). I was giggling through the store, but I didn't say anything other than that. Too surprised to come up with anything more clever.
People without a brain filter are really entertaining, aren't they? :)
I think I might add...and you're white? I am glad you know your colors! (I don't think I could actually say that, but it would be fun to!) I am glad that you have such quick responses --you probably make people think more than you know:).
Karen
Really? He's black? And all this time I had only noticed he didn't have red hair. ;)
